In Which Order Should I Apply Skin Care Products?

When it comes to caring for your skin, it can be complicated knowing what to choose, when to use it and how to integrate it into your routine.

As a rule of thumb, products should be applied from thinnest to thickest. Of course, we recommend you follow the manufacturer’s instructions because certain skin care products require a specific application method to be effective. Also, you must ensure the active ingredients of all your products work well together (which is a whole other matter!).

To obtain the optimal effects of your beauty products, a certain order is recommended.

Morning

Important!

Start with clean, fresh skin. You may prefer a foaming cleanser, a micellar solution or simply a splash of water.

Though it’s often skipped, step 6 is essential! Did you know that the sun, summer or winter, is the biggest cause of premature aging of the skin? Use at least a 30 SPF sunscreen and reapply it throughout the day.

Nighttime

Make-up remover
Cleanser
Toner (optional)
Eye cream
Spot treatment (optional)
Serum
Moisturizer
Facial oil (optional)

Important!

Steps 1 and 2 are often called “double cleansing” in the cosmetics world. This two-stage action allows for properly removing any traces of make-up, impurities and sunscreen.

You could apply an anti-acne product in the morning. However, many professionals recommend a nighttime application because various ingredients in such a skin care product make the skin sun sensitive.

If you use a weekly mask, incorporate it into your nightly routine after cleansing your skin.
